John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs he composed, the majority of them set in Colorado. Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short time in small folk groups. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the song, but Denver recognized that the song could become a smash hit when it was discovered that an earlier version. The singer recorded the song just a few days later when he performed it in front of the awe-inspiring crowd in Washington D.C.
